 "the way to go" 2009-11-27
By Laura O. (Houston, TX)
If you are using a Medela pump and pumping at work, these are really the only way to go. They're certainly better than trying to tote bottles back and forth, especially if you wind up being away from home longer than you anticipated. The paper straps that hook the bag up to the apparatus make these very easy to use -- just pump directly into the bag, seal it up (carefully!), tear off the top tab, and store. There's space at the top to mark the date; I carry a sharpie pen in my bag for this purpose. The only things you have to be careful about are lining up the valve correctly (it needs to face the flange) and making sure the end of the strap doesn't stick below the perforated edge at the top of the bag. Just follow the directions on the sheet in the box (also available on the Medela website).

The one down side: these are not exactly cheap, and they're not reusable. So don't fool around with the box of 20 -- go for the 50-pack. Also, so far, I haven't been able to find them with Prime shipping. So it's worth it to shop around a little bit and get the best deal.

"Too many leaks for the cost" 2009-09-11
By Melissa S.
I purchased these bags assuming that the higher cost of the Medela bags would be justified by outstanding quality. I was wrong. I spent so much of my time pumping so that my son could drink stored breastmilk after he was weaned to a bottle and now I see all of the effort and those precious minutes of pumping leaking out of the bags. I let the bags defrost in the refrigerator. So many of the bags have leaked and made a mess out of the refrigerator and its contents that I now put the bags that are defrosting into a 9 x 13 pan to catch the leaking milk. At least 1 out of every ten bags has leaked out of the bottom of the bag. My recommendation would be to buy a cheaper bag and not to be surprised if the bags leak.

 "Great for Freezing Milk" 2009-07-27
By K. McElroy (Fort Polk, LA USA)
I did not use the bags for collecting milk - rather I collected in medela containers and then transferred them to the bags for freezing. To make the most use of my freezer space I would lay the bags flat for the intial freezing and then stand them up ina storage container. They defrost easily in a sink of cool water. I experienced no leaking from these bags like a I did from another brand.

"Qulaity control problems - leakage from base and seal" 2009-07-15
By J. Holden
The bags are a great idea - my wife and I find them to be of great use. However, one cannot ever be sure that the bags will not leak during thawing. At first, we though this was just an issue of leakage from an improperly activated seal, but I have noticed that they also leak from the base. Having lost several bags of milk this way, I cannot recommend the bags very highly. Get with the program, Medela - surely you should be aware that folks don't wish to see their milk flowing down the sink!

"Terrible! Leaks, leaks, and more leaks!" 2009-05-14
By Cookie Monster (US)
These bags are awful and in my experience, after they are in the fridge, leak more than 50% of the time and, if they put in the freezer, leak more than 80% of the time. Yuck! The Lansinoh bags are wonderful--get those instead!
