 "Good pump, heavy bag" 2009-08-26
By Lillians Mom (Minnesota)
I have been using the medela pump for almost a year now and it has worked well for me. I like that I am able to repeat the let down phase on the pump with just the touch of a button. However I do have complaints.

First is that the manual states you are supposed to wipe down the diaphragm of the pump with each use. It is very challenging to get the pump open to even get to the diaphragm, and then the metal housing around it is very sharp. It is also almost impossible to get the pump out of the case it is in to clean this portion of the pump.

Secondly while the bag is large and I can fit a book and water bottle in it along with the pump it is very, very heavy. I would venture to say that the bag weighs at least 30lb with all the equipment in it. I have to ride a shuttle to get to work and getting a bag this big on and off the bus and then walking a distance with it makes my back and shoulders ache.

Third, the straps are also on the short side making is difficult to carry unless you want it sitting at chest instead of waist level. I have also had the straps repeatedly come loose and the bag fall to the ground. I have to check them every time I put items back in the bag because the metal pieces that hold the straps in place easily twist and come loose.

Fourth, the flap that is supposed to keep the bag shut does not. The magnetic latch is pretty much worthless and my bag is always half open.

Fifth. Why does the company send medium sized breast shields with the pump when in their manual they state that most women will need the large size? That makes no sense. So be forewarned that the shields they give you with the pump are unlikely to fit and you will need to purchase different ones.

I will be getting rid of this pump when I am done using it and investing in a smaller pump with my next child. Medela makes good pumps and accessories, it just happens that this bag is horrible. I have also had great experience with their customer service department.

 "Worth the $$" 2009-08-10
By Erica Thompson (Santa Monica, CA USA)
I rented a hospital grade pump after my son was born. I wish I would have spent a fraction of the $350.00 I paid for the rental and bought this pump instead. I love this pump. The battery power option is VERY convenient. The rubber cups are very comfy. I get more milk using this pump than the hospital grade. And it is faster. Worth the extra $$.

 "Works PERFECT, great price!" 2009-08-06
By M. Howarth (Provo, UT USA)
We received it sooner than the estimated shipping date. We use it regularly and have had NO problems. It works perfectly! It especially saves much more time having two pumps. My favorite part was that it was $80 cheaper than any in-store price we saw!

"Wish I had bought a different one!" 2009-07-22
By Katherine Warsager (NJ/NY)
So supposedly this is "THE" pump to have but I have a lot of issues with it.

I have to work and pump so I wanted to buy the BEST one I could and was willing to spend the $$ because I intended to use it for as close to a year as possible.

These are the things I hate:

-After about 5 to 10 minutes I have to switch it to a single pump because it's too weak even on the highest suction and I need to do a LOT of manual kneading and massage. I have to switch breasts every minute to get anything out.

-It's messy and drips and leaks

- I (maybe stupidly) didn't notice the mesh sides for a long time and I can not tell you how many times I put one of the bottles down for a second only to have it drop on the floor because of the tubing and spill and loss milk.

- Milk leaks from the holes on the top so if you ever are tilting the bottles (which seems to happen all the time) you get milk on you!

- The button you have to hit to switch "gears" is situated so you have to remove one of the pumps and reach it and that can be difficult and messy too

- the soft part of the cup has formed into grooves on mine that collect milk and if you are not very, very careful, can spill all over you, making a mess and wasting precious milk

what else?

-The pump is extremely bulky and heavy. The bag doesn't close. I had hoped to bring it back and forth between work and home but I work in the city and take the train and it is way too cumbersome for that.

- The plastic "clean service" is slightly curved (not flat) and that makes it useless because the bottles fall off of it if I try to use it, making a mess and wasting milk!

Overall I gave it 2 stars because it is better than nothing.

- I have a manual pump and I can get a better flow with that one

- There is only on dial for speed/strength and that makes it limited in adjustibilty for different needs

-I dislike this one so much I might just buy a different brand or look into renting!!

 "Voltage" 2009-02-25
By Phoebe Neo
I kinda regret getting this product from US though it saved me around SGD200. I made the trouble to ship this product from 1 place to another and later on to find out that the voltage for the product i bought is instead of 12. I called Medela service centre in Singapore to check if they sell the plug and was told that 9 volt is discontinued)....

Not only that I have to buy another adapter in order to use this product because Singapore and US are using different voltage.
