I have never written a review, but after 2 weeks of horrible nipple pain during latch on with my newborn, and two appointments with a lactation consultant, she recommended I try this product due to the damage to my nipples. Thank goodness I did, as I am now feeding without pain. I was ready to give up despite my total desire to breastfeed as the pain was excruciating. I am hoping to use these until my nipples heal and then remove. Please see a lactation consultant if you are having any difficulty with breastfeeding, the investment is well worth it, and please try these before giving up on nursing if you are having problems related to nipple pain and soreness.

I purchased one of these shortly after my sixth child was brought home. After having suffered with Mastitis several times with my last two babies, I was desparate to not have to go through it again! The shield is a lifesaver. My daughter had no problems latching on the very FIRST time and has been happily nursing since! My breasts healed in three days and I am planning on using the shield until she is at least twelve weeks old to make sure her mouth is big enough to latch on correctly! I would recommend buying TWO because they are very easy to lose. I keep mine washed and dried in a tupperware cup and keep it with me to store after I nurse. It is very simple and easy to use. I will recommend this to anyone who is suffering from sore nipples!

Hallelujah! I had the hardest time in the beginning breastfeeding my daughter. She didn't latch correctly but yet had a very firm latch, so she literally took skin off of my nipples. Obviously it was extremely painful. I would wince in pain when she latched on, but once she was on it was ok. I freaked out after I saw blood near her head in her crib, but it was my blood from my nipples dripping out of her mouth! Aack! So I finally got a clue and saw a lactation consultant. Thank God for that profession. I showed her my nipples and she said that other women would have quit breastfeeding by then. But I was determined to breastfeed. She introduced me to these nipple shields, and I started using them right away. What a difference it has made! No more pain and baby and I are both happy as can be nursing! I now own 5 of these, I wash them periodically with soap and water and keep them in a Ziploc bag. It's handiest for me to wash them while I am showering. I keep two in a Ziploc bag in my diaper bag in case I forget to bring the other ones, which has happened.
The lactation consultant initially told me to eventually discontinue them when my daughter learned to latch correctly, but I am still using them and plan to do so the entire time I nurse because my pre-nipple shield experience was extremely painful.
I only wish I found them sooner, and I recommend them to any mother that is experiencing latching problems or inverted nipples. They truly are a wonderful product that I could not live without.

I was very close to giving up on breastfeeding after strictly pumping and bottle feeding for over 6 weeks, then I thought Id give this a try, immediately my son latched to it and nursed like a pro! My milk supply is fine! My son is now 10 weeks old and still going strong, this shield is meant for temp. use but I am still using it for a few reasons.... my son still cant quite get a good latch on his own to my nipple without this, and it prevents nipple soreness, which all in all makes breastfeeding the best expierience in the world! I highly recommend this product to every mother I know!

i bought the medela nipple guard to protect a torn nipple from a nursing 12 month old with big teeth. while i am not doubting it's effectiveness for newborns and moms of, my one year old looked at the gaurd and then at me and just laughed. he now walks around with it, chewing on it. if your considering this product for anything more than mild irritation it is very thin and therefor offers little resistance to the powerful jaws of a suckling bundle of energy. i still gave the product four stars because i am sure it would have worked had i been using it when my son was under 3 months and a little less wise on me.
